How to Setup a Hytale Dedicated Server

Want to host your own Hytale server for you and your friends? Running a dedicated server means you don't need to have the game open for others to play, and gives you full control over settings, mods, and who can join.

Hytale Server Requirements

Based on the Hytale system requirements and typical game server needs, here's what you'll need:

ComponentMinimumRecommended
OSWindows Server 2019 / Ubuntu 20.04Windows Server 2022 / Ubuntu 22.04
CPU4 cores6+ cores
RAM8GB16GB
Storage20GB SSD50GB+ SSD

How to Setup a Hytale Dedicated Server

Step 1: Download the Server Files

You can download the Hytale dedicated server files from the official Hytale website. The server software is available for Windows and Linux.

Step 2: Configure the Server

The server configuration file lets you set options like:

  • Server name
  • Max players
  • Password protection
  • Game mode settings
  • World seed

Check the official Hytale documentation for the full list of configuration options.

Step 3: Port Forwarding

To allow players outside your network to connect, you'll need to forward the server port on your router:

  1. Log into your router's admin page (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1)
  2. Find the port forwarding section
  3. Add a new rule for Hytale's server port (check the server config for the default port)
  4. Point it to your server's local IP address
  5. Save and restart your router if needed

Step 4: Start the Server

Run the server executable and wait for it to fully initialize. You should see a console with server status and be able to enter commands.

Finding Your IP Address

For local network play:

  1. Open Command Prompt (Win + R, type cmd)
  2. Type ipconfig and press Enter
  3. Find your IPv4 Address (looks like 192.168.1.xxx)

For internet play:

  1. Visit WhatIsMyIP.com
  2. Your public IP will be displayed

Give this IP to your friends along with the server port.

Server Management Tips

  • Regular backups - Back up your world data frequently
  • Whitelist - Consider using a whitelist to control who can join
  • Mods - Hytale is built with modding in mind, so expect robust mod support for servers
  • Restarts - Schedule regular restarts to maintain performance

Alternative: Rent a Server

If you don't want to deal with port forwarding, hardware costs, and maintenance, consider renting from a game server hosting provider. They handle the technical setup and provide easy management panels.

Stay Updated

Hytale is in early access, so server software and features are actively being developed and improved. Keep an eye on the official Hytale news for updates.
